Today the BBC Proms has launched its 2018 season, announcing a festival “set to be more with it and edgy than ever before” (The Guardian).
This year’s Proms will feature two Ikon Arts-Edition Peters artists:
Sunday 14th July: BBC Young Musician 40th Anniversary Prom featuring Michael Collins
To mark the competition’s 40th anniversary, Michael will join Jennifer Pike (violin), Ben Goldscheider (horn) and Nicholas Daniel (oboe) to perform the premier of a new concertante piece by David Bruce, with the BBC Concert Orchestra and conductor Andrew Gourlay.
The concert also features a star-studded array of BBC Young Musician alumni including Nicola Benedetti, Sheku-Kanneh-Mason, Guy Johnston, Freddy Kempf and Emma Johnson.
Saturday 21st July: Prom 9, War & Peace featuring Ēriks Ešenvalds
Composer Ēriks Ešenvalds has been commissioned to write a new piece to open this special Prom which will mark the centenary year of the end of the First World War. ‘Shadow’ will be performed by the talented young singers of the BBC Proms Youth Choir.
The Prom will also feature Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem, performed by the World Orchestra for Peace and conducted by Simon Halsey and Donald Runnicles.
